The Washington Healthcare Innovation Council (WHIC) convened this week at Goodwin Procter in Washington, D.C., for a highly engaging and productive meeting. Members, partners, and allies from across the country — and around the world — gathered to discuss the latest developments in healthcare policy, regulation, and innovation.

We extend our sincere thanks to Matt Wetzel and Julie Tibbets at Goodwin Procter for hosting, and to everyone who joined both in person and virtually. Special recognition goes to our colleagues from SentryX, who traveled from Amsterdam to share their exciting work in post-surgical pain reduction, and to Kris Brown of Goodwin’s New York office for the kind introduction. The day concluded with a lively networking reception at Balos Estiatorio, where members continued their conversations and collaborations.

A Meeting Focused on Progress and Partnership

Throughout the session, WHIC members shared updates and perspectives on major policy issues shaping the healthcare landscape — from federal regulatory priorities and funding opportunities to innovation in medical technology, AI, and patient care. The discussions underscored WHIC’s role as a trusted forum for dialogue between industry leaders, policymakers, investors, and innovators.

Key themes included:

  • The evolving federal policy environment and upcoming actions from health agencies.

  • New funding opportunities for states focused on prevention, workforce development, and innovative care models.

  • Regulatory and market trends impacting pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and digital health.

  • Emerging technologies and innovation, including AI and advanced therapeutics.

  • The importance of collaboration across sectors to improve access, outcomes, and affordability.

Spotlight on Innovation

The meeting also featured presentations from leading innovators who are redefining how healthcare challenges are addressed.

  • SentryX shared their breakthrough approach to reducing post-surgical pain while lowering opioid use — a technology with strong clinical promise and global potential.

  • Remedy Live highlighted its national mental health outreach efforts, building digital programs that help young people and families connect and seek help when they need it most.

These presentations reinforced the spirit of WHIC: advancing solutions that improve lives through responsible innovation and partnership.

Looking Ahead

WHIC members are already preparing for upcoming engagements, including our invitation-only meeting at HHS once the federal shutdown concludes, and our Winter Summit in Jupiter, Florida, on February 11.

As WHIC continues to grow, its members remain united by a shared commitment to advancing healthcare innovation, improving patient outcomes, and supporting sound public policy that drives meaningful progress.

Together, we’re shaping the next chapter of healthcare innovation in Washington and beyond.
