Washington Health Innovation Meeting Recap - January 30th, 2025
The first Washington Health Innovation Council (WHIC) meeting post-inauguration was one of our strongest - carried by the energy of the new year, the changes occurring and expected, a combination of federal and Tennessee-based partners, and the participation of current partners, our newest partners and invited guests. The agenda featured two round tables for discussion - one DC-based and one Tennessee-based.
Thank you to Matt Wetzel and Julie Tibbets and the whole team at Goodwin for hosting the meeting and the reception.
We greatly appreciate the efforts of our new partner Chris Krese who arranged for a great delegation of pharmacists from a range of organizations in Tennessee including the Tennessee Pharmacist Association, St Jude Hospital, Regional One Health, and a community pharmacist. And we appreciate the Nashville-based member of the U.S. Anesthesia Partners team of anesthesiologists.
We are appreciative of Sen. Marsha Blackburn who took the time to record a video for our group. I have highlighted who from Tennessee was on the call and our appreciation for her leadership on a range of issues including PBM Reform.
A joint team of Goodwin and JKS advisors provided a thorough presentation on a range of issues (outline below) on what 2025 could have in store in Washington on the regulatory, legislative and personnel fronts:

Membership/Partnership Contributions
All companies/firms/associations need to be fully current on their 12-month partnership contributions to be considered active and attend future 2025 meetings. Patient organizations may attend at no cost.
2025 Issues
Active Members should send their top 3 policy priorities - we are creating a list of specific policy priorities by WHIC partner and a set of overarching principles and items such as PBM reform that we will be actively supporting. For those that want to create new advocacy opportunities for your issues - please contact me directly and we will work out a plan and budget.
Third Party Litigation Funding Report
Our first significant work product will be published this month and the focus is the growing threat to patients and innovators from thrid parties such as non-U.S. actors and hedge funds financing mass tort litigation against medtech and biotech companies.
